I didn't do it after a drive, but I still managed to pull the cover off after some effort. 2. Once you have the cover off, for each horn, disconnect the power cable and remove the 1 bolt holding the factory horn and bracket. 3. Using the same bolt, install the Hella horn with its own bracket using the same mounting hole.
The gas RAV4 does make strides in fuel economy, however. Toyota estimates base models will get 26/34/29 mpg with front-wheel drive, 26/33/29 mpg with AWD. This is better than the outgoing FWD

Toyota RAV4s make awesome project cars and with the right uprated parts you can substantially maximize your driving fun. Originally designed as a practical family car it's just crying out for some performance upgrades. It is a smart modern looking SUV class vehicle which is incredibly reliable and great to work on. We have seen some awesome RAV4 tuning projects and there seems to be quite a loyal fan base of RAV4 owners. Sadly though we see many people wasting money on their RAV4 doing the wrong mods and then having to start over. Follow our articles to avoid wasting your money Improving the handling for people often first priority in your RAV4 tuning project. We would go to a maximum drop of 35mm on most models. You risk ruining the stance and practicality of the car if you go lower than this. Our aim in RAV4 engine tuning should be to increase peak power and Torque at the top end. With our pointers your RAV4 can become an awesome performer and yet still reliable daily run around. The best power gains come from larger engine sizes. The more you start with the bigger the return on investment so engine swaps are good value mods for small engined cars. RAV4 Engine Tuning. Yes and we are pleased to report that in most areas there is a growing number of aftermarket parts for this. Can the RAV4 be remapped? Most recent models can be easily mapped but early models will require an aftermarket ECU or piggyback ECU to change the mapping parameters. This list of the stages and performance modifications are usually installed by our members, decide how far you want to push your car before you begin. Getting the right uprated upgrade kits for your planned usage of the car is a time and money saver. Stage 3 competition upgrades just won't work well on the road difficult in stop start traffic. Please watch our video which covers the 5 principles of tuning your car. Be sure to subscribe and support our new channel. Best Engine Mods for your RAV4 Mapping - remapping provides the most power in terms of cost savings, aftermarket ECUs, and piggyback ECUs are all alternatives on older RAV4's. Fast road cams are one of the most significant mechanical changes, but they must be installed by someone who knows what they're doing and they are not always easy to source but you might find a local firm to regrind a stock camshaft. Intake and Exhaust - Note that on their own these mods will NOT ADD POWER in most cases, but they can help enhance power after other mods by removing the restriction. Suspension Upgrades - improving the handling of the RAV4 really improves your enjoyment of this well designed chassis. RAV4 Tuning stages Typical stage 1 mods often include: Alloy wheels,Suspension upgrade (drop 30-40mm),Sports exhaust,Lighter flywheel,Panel air filter,Remap. Typical stage 2 mods often include: Fast road cam,Power clutch,Fuel injector & fuel pump upgrades,Ported and polished head,. Typical stage 3 mods often include: Competition cam,Adding or upgrading forced induction (turbo/supercharger),Internal engine upgrades (pistons/head/valves),Sports gearbox,Engine balancing. Peak power is nice in motorsport but for a daily driven car you need a long torque band and perhaps extending the rev range. The point of our tips is to give a little insight into the world of modding mods and point you in the right direction, our forum is the place to go for detailed advice and tips on your tuning project, the best sport modifications and all aspects of modding cars. RAV4 Suspension Mods Suspension Modifications & Upgrades for the RAV4 Suspension geometry dictates how a vehicle handles, and hence improving it is an excellent method to boost performance. Lowering Springs Reduce the height of your vehicle to enhance handling. There are various brands of lowering springs available, but we would strongly recommend you stick with a quality kit, and we prefer coilovers that are adjustable wherever they are available. Suspension Kits for the Toyota RAV4 Investing in a suspension package is another cost-effective method of achieving a premium appearance and performance. Coilover Kits for the Toyota RAV4 Coilover systems often, use rubber top mounts on both the front and rear ends to offer a comfortable ride at any speed and allow you to adjust the ride height and spring characteristics. They are intended to efficiently absorb heavy impacts, providing drivers with a very pleasant ride. Therefore, if you're seeking for a comparable sensation, consider investing in one of the high-end coilover kits. Shock Absorbers for the RAV4 As its name implies, shock absorbers are designed to absorb shocks and hence provide a more pleasant ride. RAV4 Performance Camshafts A fast road camshaft proves to be one of the best NASP power modifications you can do with a single part fitted to your engine. Performance camshafts increase the power at higher RPMs and are more suited to gasoline engines than diesel engines. On the majority of engines, you can typically increase top-end power using performance camshafts. Because the cam profile has a significant impact on the engine's power production, cam modifications may make a significant difference. Due to the fact that the intake and exhaust durations will vary depending on the cam profile used, substantial engine power improvements are possible with cam changes. Fast road camshafts often boost performance over the rev range; you may lose some bottom-end power, but top-end performance will improve. While race camshafts increase the top end band, the vehicle will not idle smoothly and bottom end power will almost always suffer. On a daily driver, you'll want to match the horsepower range to your driving style. I'd never find a RAV4 Motorsport cam to be a joy to drive in congested traffic. This is because a competitive cam profile produces a very lumpy idle and makes the vehicle more prone to stall or jerk along in stop-and-go traffic; unfortunately, many disregard this and wind up ruining a perfectly decent car by reverting to a fast road or OEM cam profile. Each engine reacts differently when cams are installed owing to the head and flow characteristics, as well as the cam being less aggressive cam durations. Therefore, see each engine and camshaft as unique due to manufacturing tolerances and quality variances, and set your engine up on a rolling road. Enhancements to the RAV4's airflow The intake and exhaust flow play a large part in your cars power band, but be careful here, getting this wrong can upset the idle and make the car hard to drive in traffic. You'd need to follow a cam upgrade with other mods and finish with a reflashed ECU to fully realize your gains. Don't forget to uprate the fuelling when you are increasing the power - it makes the car more thirsty. Using higher octane petrol is another option if you find you are suffering from detonation or premature ignition on your Toyota project after fitting other upgrades. Uprated injectors will enable you to supply sufficient fuel to the engine. If have increased your fuelling with bigger injectors you will also need to get a bigger fuel pump to supply it. RAV4 Intake and Exhaust Tuning. Breathing mods are usually next up. Please note that WE DO NOT RECOMMEND INDUCTION KITS, unless you have tuned your car extensively and are finding that the standard air intake has become a restriction. Induction kits can work well on turbo engines and larger engines (if supplied with a suitable cold air feed or air box), generally though we'd just recommend for RAV4 engines you should just fit a sports panel air filter preferably made from cotton. It is essential for any engine tuning work to get as much air as possible into your RAV4 engine, with the goal of removing any restriction that may arise after extensive tuning. Air intake manifolds transport air from the air filter to the engine cylinders during the suck phase. Upgrades to the RAV4 air intake system Upgrades to the air intake system are the most critical component of any automobile modification. It is often the first area on which most car owners concentrate their efforts. An air intake system increases the vehicle's air gulping capability as compared to the factory arrangement. Improved airflow enables your RAV4 to get a more efficient mixing of fuel and air, hence increasing the combustion rate. As a result, the vehicle's power and torque output will be increased. RAV4 Performance Panel Filters Another method of increasing airflow to the engine is to use performance air filters. These components have been particularly engineered to be less obstructive. As a result, they allow for more airflow. On the RAV4, doing large valve conversions, porting, and head flowing will also improve bhp, and as an extra advantage, will let you to enhance the bhp increase from other modifications. Sports exhausts balance the flow of air through the engine. But if the exhaust is too big, ie: it's over inches bore, you will lose much of your flow rate and end up lacking power and torque. Getting a professionally ported and polished head with larger valves can fully release the engines power. A good fast road upgraded clutch will help to keep that power going where it should. Never cut corners or assume a standard clutch to cope. Remaps offer significant power gains on all turbo charged cars. On NA (naturally aspirated) engines the benefits are doubtful. However a remapped ECU on a NA (naturally aspirated) engine will help unleash the potential if you have done a lot of mods. We've also come across some owners playing with twin charging conversions and making some impressively high power figures. The most phenomenal power gains for NA (naturally aspirated) engines usually involve the addition of forced induction. Turbos are generally harder to add than a supercharger. It is difficult to map fuelling with a turbo as the boost comes on exponentially with engine speed. It is easier to map a supercharger because the boost is proportional to engine speed on a linear curve. Decreasing the engines compression ratio will allow you to add forced induction, water injection may also help prevent detonation. RAV4 Alloy Wheel Upgrades. Alloy wheels will help the brake cooling and are usually less heavy than the steel ones. We'd like to point out although they can look cool on the RAV4 big alloy wheels will actually decrease your performance. The larger you go the lower your acceleration will be - this to the change in your effective final drive ratio. For this reason we would advise sticking to a maximum wheel size of 18 or 19 inches, although we know some of our members have gone larger than this with no problems with low profile tyres but this just doesn't seem right on the RAV4. The third system is present on all RAV4 hybrids, and uses an electric motor mounted to the rear axle to power the rear wheels. The hybrid also offers an XSE trim level with a sportier suspension tune.
Japan may be one of the last major markets that get the all-new 2019 Toyota RAV4 but customers there are truly spoiled for choice when it comes to factory tuning options. Both TRD and Modellista released a wide variety of accessories for the SUV, including styling kits, performance parts, and roof racks. When going for the full package, the RAV4 is transformed to such an extent it’s hard to believe there are actually factory-approved custom parts. Starting off with the folks from TRD, they envisioned two different personalities for the RAV4: the “Field Monster” and the “Street Monster.” The former is based on the Adventure grade and it makes the RAV4 look like a true off-roader courtesy of wider plastic wheel arches, TRD side decals, TRD front and rear ornaments, 17-inch alloys shod with off-road tires and mud flaps. The “Street Monster” adopts an urban look thanks to an aggressive body kit featuring sportier bumpers and extended side skirts for a low stance. In this configuration, the RAV4 only has 121 mm ( in) of ground clearance left, making it rather useless off the beaten track. Besides these two packs, TRD also offers individual parts such as 20-inch TRD TF X-Limited alloys, performance dampers, custom mufflers, and roof racks. As with TRD, Modellista also developed two personas of the new RAV4. There’s the road-focused “Urban Solid Strider” and the off-road-oriented “Jaos,” each bringing significant changes to the SUV. The former version adopts a sharp-looking aero kit with additional LED lights in the front spoiler, front grille garnish, pointy side skirts, 19-inch alloys, and more. The Jaos kit based on the Adventure grade boosts the rugged character of the RAV4 courtesy of beefier bumpers with skid plates, additional side protection, C-pillar protective panels, and 20-inch wheels shod with Toyo tires. Advanced technology. Improved safety systems. Off-road capable new trim level. These are all things fans and enthusiasts of Toyota RAV4 have been asking about for years. And for 2023 RAV4 and 2023 RAV4 Hybrid, people will get their requests granted. 2023 Toyota RAV4 Changes The top-selling SUV in the country is getting important updates and additions. Key changes that will give drivers more capabilities, connectivity, and peace of mind. First, 2023 Toyota RAV4 is upgrading to Toyota Safety Sense (TSS New systems in this state-of-the-art safety package include intersection support and emergency steering assist. RAV4 TSS can alert you if it detects vehicles or pedestrians while you are making a turn at intersections. Also, your RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid can stabilize your evasive steering maneuvers to help prevent lane departure if it senses potential obstacles in your path. I have received many emails and comments from viewers of my “ToyotaJeff Reviews” YouTube channel asking when Toyota will upgrade Toyota Safety Sense and multimedia systems for RAV4. People should be pleased. 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid New Multimedia Both Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and Toyota RAV4 gasoline models receive Toyota Audio Multimedia additions for 2023 model year. You may have already seen this state-of-the-art system in the latest next-gen Tundra and Sequoia. You will also now find it in popular Toyota models like Venza and Highlander as well. Toyota Audio Multimedia provides more music, phone, text, navigation, and vehicle information than ever before. Graphics and functions are extremely user-friendly and easy to understand and learn. To me the biggest benefits are wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, along with the ability to simultaneously pair two phones at the same time. In addition, RAV4 Toyota Audio Multimedia features five times the processing speeds compared to the previous generation system. Voice commands are more conversational, allowing passengers to start using commands simply by saying “Hi Toyota, Hey Toyota, Hello Toyota, or OK Toyota”. Multimedia touch screens for 2023 RAV4 and 2023 RAV4 Hybrid will come in either 8-inch or sizes, depending on trim level. Multi-information displays will be offered in 7-inch or sizes. 2023 RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition Look for the most off-road capable Toyota RAV4 Hybrid to-date. The 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition is coming this fall, complete with cool styling and off-road toughness. Oh, and great gas mileage as well. My “ToyotaJeff Reviews” YouTube video gives more detail, but here are the highlights. RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition features TRD-tuned suspension, which will smooth out bumps on the trails and give smooth ride comfort on the road. Look for Falken WILDPEAK all-terrain tires and flow-formed bronze-colored wheels on RAV4 Woodland Edition. Other 2023 Toyota RAV4 Woodland Edition benefits are raised black roof rails, a 120V inverter, black badging, mud guards, dual black chrome-tipped exhaust, and custom all-weather mats and cargo mat. Fuel efficiency numbers have not been released yet, but I would expect figures to be similar to the 40mpg combined (some drivers are getting better mpg) seen in other RAV4 Hybrid trim levels. The original Toyota RAV4 arrived in the United States 22 years ago, casting the mold for a whole new industry segment, which evolved into the compact crossover the all-new, fifth-generation 2019 Toyota RAV4, the vehicle premieres, yet again, at the forefront - both for the Toyota brand and for the first RAV4 was a true game-changer, but no one knew at the time just how big of a market shift it would create. Much has changed in the two decades since then. Compact crossover SUVs have grown in actual size, and segment growth shows no signs of abating. RAV4 is the currently the best-selling vehicle in its class, doubling volume over the last five years to sales of nearly 408,000 in the in 2017. That makes RAV4 Toyota's best-selling vehicle in the and the best-selling non-pickup truck in the 2019 RAV4 is, in essence, disrupting the segment it created. It is bringing more sport and more utility back while enhancing the agile handling, everyday comfort and exemplary fuel efficiency that made RAV4 the segment leader it is now. All told, the 2019 RAV4 is designed to tackle urban, suburban and great outdoor adventures with equal aplomb. The look is tougher, and there's greater capability with a new type of all-wheel drive, yet the ride is smoother and quieter, with new comfort touches RAV4 powertrains increase performance while reducing fuel consumption. Second-generation Toyota Safety Sense (TSS comes standard, and Entune multimedia is more comprehensive and versatile than the compact crossover SUV trend-setter, is poised to, once again, change the will be no mistaking the 2019 Toyota RAV4 for anything else in its class. Following the guiding themes of Adventure and Refined, designers drew inspiration from tough Toyota trucks, particularly in front-end and grille design, to create an athletic, chiseled appearance. Sophisticated sculpting with a more dynamic profile and robust shoulders give the 2019 RAV4 a brawnier stance, giving the vehicle a "get up and go" their polygonal motifs, the wheel arches appear to hold the tires from a high position, emphasizing the lifted-up body and drawing attention to the vehicle's capability. Ground clearance is increased by more than a half-inch over the previous generation RAV4, with LE and LXE grades having inches and XLE and above having inches. Black-finish lower body protection further emphasizes the lifted-up look, yet RAV4 retains a comfortable step-in side mirrors are now positioned lower on the doors for increased forward visibility around the A-pillar. Side visibility is increased thanks to a lowered beltline and the redesigned and enlarged rear-quarter glass. Form and function combine in taillights and exterior door handles which have been shaped to contribute to aerodynamic 2019 RAV4 wheelbase grows inches over the previous model, adding to rear seat legroom. Overall length comes in at inches ( inches on Adventure grade). Height is reduced to inches (with antenna) on LE and XLE grades and inches on XLE Premium and Limited grades. Adventure grade come up just a bit higher with an overall height of inches. Width is inches on Adventure grade while the rest of the grades measure at inches. Front tread width is inches on 17-inch and 18-inch wheels and inches on 19-inch wheels. Rear width is inches on 17-inch and 18-inch wheels and inches on 19-inch Like a Takumi-tuned BrickBeneath the 2019 RAV4's bolder sheet metal, the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA-K) platform provides the robust foundation for capability, comfort and safety. The longer wheelbase and wider front and rear tracks provide a stable, confident driving platform. Shorter front and rear overhangs aid the RAV4's trail driving 2019 Toyota RAV4's unibody structure is 57-percent more rigid than the previous model, allowing tuning for the front strut and rear multi-link suspension that enhances agility while also providing a smoother, quieter ride. The end goal was clear: create a driving experience that is confident and TNGA-K platform allows for lower powertrain placement and lower center of gravity than in the previous RAV4. Using high-strength steel has reduced weight in the upper body, also helping to shift the center of gravity lower. A new saddle-style fuel tank distributes weight of the fuel evenly side-to-side. The previous model had the entire tank on one side of the RAV4's exceptional handling performance and ride compliance are not simply the result of engineering the right parts. Throughout vehicle development, a select group of takumi (highly trained master craftsmen), focused on the finest tuning details to ensure a level of vehicle smoothness in most driving conditions, particularly at everyday driver will feel the benefits when steering into the first corner, or over the first bump. RAV4, with its added capability for 2019, offers crisper on-road handling and an even more accommodating and quieter ride than its esteemed lighter powertrain and new steering system are major contributors to that cause. The new parallel-type electric power steering system is rack-mounted rather than column-mounted as is the case in the previous model. The new design helps enhance turning response and a natural feel that can help reduce fatigue on long drives. Higher rigidity in the steering mounting and column further enhances steering responsiveness and Power from Less FuelPower and efficiency both make a leap in the 2019 RAV4 thanks to the new Dynamic Force inline-four-cylinder engine paired with an 8-speed Direct-Shift Automatic Transmission in the gas models. In the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, the engine is teamed with Toyota Hybrid System II (THS II) with Electronically-Controlled Continuously-Variable Transmission (ECVT) making it the efficiency leader of the lineup with preliminary manufacturer estimated mpg of 41/37/39 (City/Hwy/Comb).The combination of a very high compression ratio (13:1 on gas models, 14:1 on HV models, which uses Atkinson cycle), D4-S fuel injection (combining direct and secondary port injectors), high-speed combustion, VVT-iE intelligent variable valve-timing and ultra-low internal friction yield a maximum thermal efficiency of 40 percent (41 percent for the RAV4 HV), making it the ideal powerplant for the all-new RAV4 to meet the demand of providing a highly responsive, yet fuel efficient driving new Direct Shift-8AT transmission provides a much wider ratio spread than the 6-speed automatic it replaces ( vs. resulting in quicker and smoother acceleration, getting drivers from 0 - 60 mph in seconds (Limited grade). The new transmission provides torque converter lock-up in gears 2 through 8 to help eliminate power loss and the execution of ultra-smooth shifts. The driver can choose from Eco, Normal and Sport modes to tailor vehicle Torque Vectoring All-Wheel DriveIn addition to standard front-wheel drive, Toyota RAV4 gas models offer two types of available all-wheel drive. The new, segment- and Toyota-first, Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive with Rear Driveline Disconnect comes standard on AWD-equipped Limited gas and Adventure grade models. It can direct up to 50 percent of engine torque to the rear wheels, as well as distribute it to the left or right rear wheel to enhance handling on or off AWD isn't required -on long stretches of highway, for example- RAV4 can help achieve better fuel economy thanks to the Rear Driveline Disconnect system. The system uses the world's first ratchet-type dog clutches to stop the rear-axle driveshaft's rotation, thus helping to significantly reduce energy loss and improve fuel on all AWD-equipped gas RAV4 models, Multi-Terrain Select gives drivers the ability to maximize traction when driving through mud, sand, rocks, dirt and snow. The system is easy to use thanks to control buttons or a control dial (depending on the grade) positioned to the left of the transmission shift driver can select Mud & Sand mode for beach driving, or Rock & Dirt mode for trails. Using the Multi-Information Display (MID), the driver can view torque allocation and slip control, which will fluctuate depending on driving and road addition, RAV4 models include the following features for optimal on-road and off-road performance and safety:Hill Start Assist Control (HAC)Trailer Sway Control (TSC)Downhill Assist Control (DAC) (standard on Adventure and Limited AWD only)Toyota RAV4 Hybrid: Enhanced All-Wheel Drive CapabilityAs with the AWD system in the previous RAV4 HV models, the new AWD version employs a separate rear-mounted electric motor to power the rear wheels when needed. The 2019 system comes standard on all Toyota RAV4 HV grades and increases total torque to the rear wheels by 30 percent compared to the previous on-road driving, distributing more driving force to the rear wheels helps suppress front wheel slip during off-the-line starts for optimal acceleration performance and stability. The system also helps reduce understeer during cornering for enhanced steering stability. Off-road, the increased rear-wheel torque helps provide powerful hill-climbing performance, even on rough driver-selectable Trail Mode helps make it possible to get unstuck by braking a spinning wheel and sending torque to the wheel with to the 2019 RAV4 HV models, Predictive Efficient Drive (PED) essentially reads the road and learns driver patterns to help optimize hybrid battery charging and discharging operations based on actual driving conditions. The system accumulates data as the vehicle is driven and "remembers" features such as hills and stoplights, for example, and adjusts the hybrid powertrain operation to maximize efficiency. Operation is transparent to the Re-DefinedThe Refined theme guided interior design and the word "premium" will come to mind, as well. The dash layout is modern and uncomplicated yet packed with the latest multimedia technology and some thoughtful surprises. "User-friendly" may sound like a cliché until one experiences it in the 2019 Toyota instrument panel's horizontal layout has a slimmer profile and a lower position than before to enhance forward visibility. Its reduced visible angle conveys a feeling of greater openness in the cabin, as thoughtful mix of interior materials conveys a higher level of sophistication in the 2019 RAV4, obvious at first look and touch. Solid material used for the upper and lower parts of the instrument panel and door trim grip conveys strength and durability. Soft padding has been added to areas that passengers frequently touch. These contrasting surfaces emphasize the dual nature of this SUV. Stitching that enhances the continuity from the door trim to the instrument panel adds a sense of details large and small show the focus on enhanced everyday comfort and convenience throughout the RAV4 cabin. Front and rear seats are more supportive and more comfortable. Available two-zone front heated seats include a thoughtful touch: greater heat provided in the center of the back and the thighs, which many people typically find center console is about inches wider and more versatile than before. Compared to the previous RAV4, the center armrest sits about inches higher to match door armrest height for more natural and comfortable elbow resting. A newly standard Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) helps improve accessibility, and console storage has been increased. The console also provides side-by-side cup holders, an open tray to hold small items and an optional Qi wireless easy-to-reach in-dash trays for the driver and passenger hold such items as electronics, mobile phones, and other travel must-haves. At night, clear blue LEDs illuminate the trays to keep items visible and provide indirect mood lighting for the cabin (on Limited, XSE and Adventure grades). When RAV4 is in motion, the tray lights are dimmed to prevent driver addition, an overhead console offers room for small objects, such as sunglasses. Attention to detail also shows in the way the climate controls can be operated while wearing gloves, greatly enhancing Comfort ThroughoutRear seat passengers get plenty of attention in the new RAV4, starting with access. The larger rear door-opening angle, reduced distance from the hip point to the rocker, and increased distance from the rear seat to the door trim makes getting in and out easier. Once seated, passengers will immediately feel the benefit of the greater left and right couple distance and legroom, as well as the improved seat rear armrest area is nearly inches wider than before, and its cup holders are deeper. There are new air conditioning vents for the rear seat area, which are standard on LE HV and above on hybrids, and XLE and above on gas Toyota RAV4 has been lauded for its quiet ride, but that didn't stop Toyota from making further improvements. The high-strength TNGA platform is the first defense against noise intrusion. Sound-damping and soundproofing materials have been optimized throughout the vehicle, with a particular focus on minimizing noise in the frequencies that interfere with conversation in the and gaps between parts have also been filled in with sound-damping material for an even greater reduction in road noise intrusion. As one example, the floor silencer pad is now one large piece, and its surface area is increased from 60 percent coverage to 92 Pack MuleIn shifting to a more focused SUV design for the 2019 RAV4, Toyota also added emphasis to a key reason people buy these vehicles: carrying capability. The cargo area is more than inches longer, and the side surfaces have been shaped for maximum space usage. Side pockets behind the wheel wells provide extra storage. The LE grade features a removable partition to hold items in place, while the higher grades feature added convenience, the cargo area deck offers two height levels:Upper level: The heights of the finish plate and deck board surface are aligned, making it easy to store and remove objects. Also, when the rear seats are folded, the rear seatbacks, finish plate, and deck form a nearly flat surface, enabling long items to be carried more level: The height from the deck board to the vehicle ceiling increases by about inches to accommodate taller deck board is reversible: Flipping it over brings a plastic surface, ideal for carrying wet or dirty MultimediaEvery 2019 Toyota RAV4 model is equipped with Entune multimedia, including Wi-Fi Connect powered by Verizon, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant capability, and Apple CarPlay standard Entune audio system uses a 7-inch touchscreen perched atop the center stack for easy access. EURO NCAPW 2019 roku Toyota RAV4 zdobyła maksymalny wynik 5 gwiazdek w testach zderzeniowych Euro NCAP. Według producenta RAV4 Hybrid AWD-i potrzebuje średnio 5,6-5,9l/100km. Toyota RAV4 Hybrid 222KM AWD-i e-CVT. Okolice 6,5 l/100 km w mieście to wynik do osiągnięcia bez problemu. Osoby poruszające się dynamiczniej mogą narzekać na przekładnię CVT. 18 December 2019 -> Cars from AZ, -> Tuner from AZ, Kuhl Racing, Premium vehicles, ToyotaThe current Toyota RAV4 can be seen right from the factory. Especially with regard to the first generation, there is nothing more of the rounded shape to be seen than that Number 5 presents itself as a real SUV with corners and edges as well as sweeping shapes. In combination with the six different equipment options, a hybrid and decent gasoline engines, the Japanese compact SUV is a real competitor for the VW Tiguan, the Mitsubishi Outlander or the Skoda Kodiaq. And even premium vehicles like the Mercedes GLC, the Audi Q3 or the X3 from BMW should be careful. After all, the base price of € in particular is an argument that is hard to beat. And if you then miss the RAV4 the brand new body kit from the Japanese tuner Kuhl-racing, the alternative should be body kit from the Japanese tunerThe tuner has that announced aerodynamic kit now completed and finally pictures of a converted vehicle published. And the changes are exactly as the virtual pictures from May this year promised. That means there was a new one radiator grill, a spoiler with panels for the front apron, sill swords, a new roof spoiler and the announced rear apron attachment in diffuserOptics. The body kit is painted white in the photo vehicle and is staged with a new wheelset. You might even be excused for thinking it had — wait for it — a little bit of attitude. For the new RAV4 Hybrid model, you get all that plus more power and a lot more to DriveCost to drive estimates for the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE 4dr SUV AWD ( 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $ per gallon for regular unleaded in North estimates based on costs in North Dakota EPA-estimated fuel economy is up to 39 mpg combined this year, which is a 6 mpg improvement over the 2018 model. The battery-assisted powertrain now produces 219 horsepower, making this the most powerful RAV4 since the V6 engine was discontinued in 2012. Inside, the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is comfortable and roomy. The controls are easy to find, and the cabin design has more visual appeal than the outgoing model. Apple CarPlay comes standard on every RAV4. Toyota's Safety Sense Suite is also standard and includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and forward collision mitigation with automatic braking. Blind-spot monitoring is equipped on all but the base trim. On many competitive SUVs, you have to upgrade to the more expensive trim levels to get these safety features. Nor are those competitive SUVs actually all that competitive. No other small two-row SUV gives you this much efficiency, utility and power. The Mazda CX-5 has a nicer cabin and offers a more engaging driving experience, but there's no hybrid option. And while the Honda CR-V is a great all-rounder, there's no official word yet on when a hybrid model will arrive in the United States. Alternative-fuel fans might look to the diesel Chevrolet Equinox, which drives well and is relatively efficient, but the diesel is only available in pricier trim levels. You might also consider the Kia Niro or, if you have a place to plug in, the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid. However, the Subaru is very pricey for only small efficiency gains, and the Niro — while very efficient — is overall less appealing than the RAV4. Both also offer significantly less passenger and cargo space. Toyota has this particular market cornered for the moment. It's almost a bonus that the 2019 RAV4 Hybrid would still be worth considering even if it weren't in a class by itself. Notably, we picked the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid as one of Edmunds' Best Gas Mileage SUVs for this Expert / 10Trim testedEach vehicle typically comes in multiple versions that are fundamentally similar. The ratings in this review are based on our full test of the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XSE ( inline-4 hybrid | CVT automatic | AWD). / swift acceleration makes the RAV4 Hybrid kind of fun to drive in and around traffic. But it's less amusing when stopping, and the transmission brings about awful engine sounds when you dig into the is snappy, especially from around 25 to 40 mph. Electric assist combined with the gas engine's 176 horsepower keeps enough power on tap for lively slingshots around traffic. Our RAV4 Hybrid test unit covered 0-60 mph in seconds, a solid result that's more than a second quicker than the non-hybrid RAV4 we've hybrid's brakes differ from those of a regular RAV4. They are effective in daily situations, but the pedal feels vague and mushy and lacks the feedback needed to stop smoothly every time. Panic-stop performance is underwhelming, largely because of the economy-minded tires. In our braking test, the RAV4 Hybrid needed 131 feet to stop from 60 mph at our test track. Most other top small SUVs stop in the low steering is vague around its center point when you're driving at highway speeds. Sometimes you'll feel like you need to make tiny corrections to stay centered. The thing is, it does track well enough if you don't fuss with it. The steering gets more direct when you're driving around turns, but even then there's no real feedback or sense of the the XSE trim and its sport-tuned suspension, the hybrid provides good composure and stability when turning quick corners. It shakes off midcorner bumps without losing stability, and there's minimal body roll. There isn't enough tire grip for any truly sporty driving, but it's consistent with the hybrid's unique continuously variable automatic transmission is smooth at all speeds, whether in town or cruising on the highway. It also copes well with gentle acceleration. But digging into the pedal for any quick burst will rev up the engine and generate the typical obnoxious engine droning that some passengers will not drive and inches of ground clearance give the hybrid some basic tools for modest trail or all-terrain work. It's enough to warrant consideration as a dual-purpose car that saves gas by the week and gets to the ski hill or trailhead by the RAV4 Hybrid can cover long and short distances in pleasant comfort thanks to a firm but absorbent suspension, supportive seats and effective climate control. Wind noise can be an issue if you leave the roof rack crossbars on. The hybrid system makes an assortment of weird noises that you may or may not find front seats have padding that is both supportive and pliable, and aside from a flattish bottom cushion, they're generally well-shaped. But these are not cradling sport seats, so you'll find yourself sliding around during spirited driving. The rear seats are comfortable enough and recline but lack side the XSE's sport-tuned suspension, its underpinnings offer a good combination of comfort and control. Body motion is neither busy nor floaty, and rough patches of bumps and dips don't really upset the cabin. Harsh impacts from driving over potholes sound sharper than they feel, which suggests a need for more sound-deadening hybrid powertrain toggles between silent and overly noisy, depending on what the engine and transmission are doing. Road noise is nicely muted, but at highway speeds you will hear wind noise if you leave the optional roof rack crossbars fitted. The hybrid system makes Toyota's familiar assortment of electrical whizzings, clickings and whirrings at odd suitable airflow throughout the cabin thanks to strong fan speeds and easily adjusted air vents front and rear. It gets to temp quickly, too. Chunky rubberized control knobs are easy to use, even with gloves. The seat heaters warm quickly, but even the highest setting the seats don't get all that easy to get in and out of the RAV4 Hybrid's front and back seats, and the roomy cabin gives four adults plenty of space to stretch out. Seat height is odd, though. The rear seats are set low, and the front seats are set too high and can't be adjusted down. It can be an issue for taller drivers and front every control is logically placed and easy to figure out at a glance. We like how the audio and climate systems are clearly separated. The biggest drawback is the long reach for the driver to the touchscreen and the tuning in/getting high-mounted front seats make for easy entry and exit. The narrow doorsills and minimal side and thigh bolsters also make easy work of getting in and out of the back seat. But the low fixed point of the rear seats will force you to "drop in" slightly on tilt-and-telescoping steering column will help you dial in a clear view of the road ahead. But the height of the front seats, even at their lowest setting, might still be too high for taller RAV4 doesn't feel claustrophobic in any seat. The rear seat is especially spacious in all directions. It reclines, too. Taller drivers may feel too close to the roof even in the lowest height setting, and the front passenger's high-mounted seat cannot be lowered at slim front roof pillars help mitigate front-corner blind spots, ensuring a good view of pedestrians and curbs while turning. A rising window line compromises some rear-side visibility, but extra windows behind the rear doors do much to minimize the blind spot. The optional surround-view camera offers multiple useful viewing angles, but the image is fairly surfaces, touch points and assembly all feel high-quality. Nice tactile touches abound, such as rubberized grips on dials and soft landings for elbows. Toyota's SofTex simulated-leather upholstery feels soft and pliable, and the stitching looks tight and tidy, even if the fabric inserts give it a bit of a rental-car RAV4's cargo hold is nearly the largest in its class, hybrid or otherwise, and the load floor is low and makes loading cargo easy. A handful of storage nooks offer space for most small personal items. All but the bulkiest child seats fit easily and without issue. This hybrid can actually tow a bit more than most compact small center console and molded door pockets large enough for a medium-size bottle are the extent of the hybrid's most useful storage nooks. A nifty tray lined with rubber grip spans a length above the glovebox for items such as a phone or sunglasses. It's a neat idea seemingly imported from the hybrid impressively offers the same luggage room ( cubic feet) as its gas counterpart. A low loading height and wide opening make for easy cargo shuffling. The optional stereo system subwoofer takes up some corner space, but a small cubby with secure netting helps you store smaller items. Four tie-down hooks and a 12-volt power outlet enhance the hybrid's safety seat car seat anchors are easily accessible at the base of rear seatbacks. A swatch of vinyl above lower car seat anchor points should help prevent fabric wear due to frequent car seat changes — a nice touch. Top tether anchor points behind the rear seatbacks are also easily accessible and are hidden out of sight by fabric flaps. The RAV4 has plenty of room for forward-facing seats, but installing a bulky rear-facing seat may require sliding up the front seats RAV4 variants, such as the non-hybrid Adventure model, can tow up to 3,500 pounds. The hybrid is stuck with a 1,750-pound towing capacity, but that's still a bit better than what you'll get from some other small and navigation controls are easy to use thanks to a large tablet-style display, but the graphics look dated. Apple CarPlay is included, but Android smartphone users are still left out. The optional audio system sounds good, and the inclusion of a bundle of advanced driver aids as standard equipment is a huge display is large, and it's easy to pull up maps and menus using touchscreen icons and fixed buttons surrounding the bezel. The graphics look dated, but otherwise the system works well. The optional JBL audio system delivers full, clear CarPlay is available, but Android users will still need to interface with Toyota's clunky Entune system. Only one USB port transmits data, but passengers can charge their devices with four USB ports (two front, two rear). Bluetooth pairing is easy and requires few confirmation steps, and an optional wireless charging pad will hold today's largest impressive group of driver aids includes stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, and Lane Tracing Assist, Toyota's nearly self-steering system. In our testing, it worked well in dense highway traffic and free-flowing roads with clear lane markings. Adaptive cruise control defaults to the farthest following distance each time it's switched commands are available for basic phone, audio and navigation functions, but they require careful and deliberate verbal input that's easier after you spend time using the setup wizard to teach it your voice. Android and iPhone can go directly to Siri or Google Voice instead by pressing and holding the voice RAV4 Hybrid does Edmunds recommend? The XLE is an undeniable bargain, coming in under $30,000 and presenting a full roster of safety features, but we'd try and swing the XSE if we could. That move is the biggest price jump between trim levels, but you get a full spectrum of upgrades. From luxuries such as improved interior trim and power driver seat, to technology such as the 8-inch infotainment screen and 7-inch driver information display, to practicalities including a power liftgate and added interior ambient lighting, the XSE is pretty loaded for a reasonable price. If you live somewhere cold, you'll want the Weather Prep package with its heated steering wheel and de-icer function for the windshield Toyota RAV4 Hybrid modelsThe 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has a slightly different trim-level setup from the standard model. Gone is the toughened-up Adventure trim. Instead, the Hybrid follows a pretty standard progression from the well-equipped base LE model through the XLE and the XSE and then to the range-topping Limited. I bought a 2019 RAV4 XSE Hybrid in May 2019. I am still checking out all the features and options of this new car. This would be my 4th Toyota Hybrid (after two Prius and a 2017 RAV 4 Hybrid Limited). I loved all my hybrid cars and definitely love the Toyota brand and reliability (and of course the hybrid technology). I am about 1,600 miles on this new RAV and I have … been averaging 44-45 MPG mostly highway and city mix (no freeway constant speeds in the 75-80 MPH range). I am more than pleased with its performance. Of course I don't think is perfect, but it is a well designed and built vehicle. I like a good versatility in my car and this one definitely has it: from a daily commute to work vehicle, to loading my both Golden Retrievers and taking them to the beach, good gas economy, modern technology, safety and reliability, comfort, etc. The engine seems to be a bit louder when I accelerate than my older RAV hybrid. And also I don't like the noises the car makes while on electric mode only (especially backing up). There are a few things with the electronic display that are annoying, like street signs will display only in a certain viewing mode, or once you connect your iPhone it automatically does the car play connection (I wish there was a screen to opt in or out of that). I am not an expert on car mechanics and technology, but I do like cars and know about them and stay up to date with what's new, and I appreciate them from a regular consumer view point. If you like a good overall vehicle you wont go wrong with a new RAV4 hybrid. This is not to say all the other similar vehicles on the market are not as good. But I just happened to like this one. Jan. 2021 - more than yer later and still love my RAV4 XSE. Just over 20,000 miles mark, no complains whatsoever. I am going to keep her a little bit longer or until Toyota comes up with something updated. July 2022: Had my XSE for just over three years now. Besides regular maintenance I have not done anything else. Actually got new Michelin tires and re-aligned the wheels and it seems like now it drives even better. I usually get a new vehicle about every three years and I hate to let her go right now. I have about 38,500 miles on her and kept track of mileage performance and the average is a solid 39 mpg since I bought her. I put my name for a new bZ4X, but who knows when those will be out of 5 starsHybrid > 8 SpeedDante Driver,04/17/2019XLE 4dr SUV AWD ( 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)I purchased a RAV4 Hybrid XLE last week. So far, I am very impressed with the vehicle. I test-drove both the hybrid and 8-speed, and found the powertrain under the hood of the hybrid to be much more responsive: a genuinely "spirited" driver, especially for a crossover. Engine noise in the hybrid was also very quiet, even for an eCVT. I was ready to be disappointed after the negative … press about engine noise. As many reviewers have stated online, the petrol-only engine is loud and "gravelly." Toyota appears to have invested much more attention / innovation on the hybrid model than the 8-speed. If you're in the market for a new RAV4, pay the extra $800 for the hybrid version. It's worth the out of 5 starsGreat Car BUTjmlambion,05/28/2019XLE 4dr SUV AWD ( 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)My friend and I bought 2019 RAV4 Hybrids from the same dealership on the same day. For several weeks we would regale ourselves with our outstanding gas milage. We were both averaging 42-43 mpg. BUT, after about 3,000 miles our milage plummeted to an average of 37-38 mpg. We both drive exclusively in ECO Mode and our driving habits have not altered since we purchased out RAV4s. The … dealership claims this is normal and our milage will increase sometime in the future. Still waiting. I have reconciled myself that Apple CarPlay is the most efficient way to get GPS for free and listen to my iTunes, even though that means constantly plugging in, and unplugging, my phone. Unfortunately I like Google Maps over Apple Maps but when you have multiple panes on your home screen, you can only see Apple Maps in one of the panes. Everyone wants a monthly fee. Apple Music wants a monthly fee for my iTunes. Toyota wants a monthly fee for their GPS service. Verizon wants a monthly fee to maintain the Wi-FI connection. Google Maps and Apple Maps are free but they have their own problems and you must connect your phone and pay Verizon (in my case) for data usage. H. Havocvoodoo Discussion starter. 3 posts · Joined 2019. #1 · Apr 16, 2019. I bought a 2019 Rav4 XLE Premium on March 22. By March 24, the USB that connects to the head unit wouldn't recognize any device plugged in. It would not connect at all, would not charge (yes, I know it's a very slow charging port).
The all-new Toyota RAV4 has arrived and with it comes a relatively broad range of hybrid is the diesel -- the previous go-to variant for towing -- leaving just the hybrid GX, GXL and Cruiser and petrol-only Edge with their maximum 1500kg towing capacity (150kg maximum towball download). While you may scoff at the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid’s mere 1500kg towing maximum, it's more than enough to tow a camper trailer or small to medium caravan today. The Toyota RAV4’s hybrid technology is also what we’ll see in heavy-duty tow vehicles tomorrow. For example, the LandCruiser 200 series -- the caravan fraternity’s heavy-duty hero tow vehicle -- is going to be replaced in 2021 by the 300 series, that must embrace new tech to meet tightening emissions Toyota has not yet revealed exactly what will power the 300, it’s obvious that -- unless Toyota engineers come up with a never-seen-before large, high-output diesel engine with super-low emissions -- hybrid must be in the course while we already have a relatively heavy-hauling pure-EV, the Tesla Model X, here and now (with its 2200kg maximum capacity), the reality is that it’s expensive and lacks the range, recharging infrastructure and recharge speed to be a realistic around-Australia towing tourer. Toyota RAV4 tows the lineSo back to the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Here we have the mid-grade GXL model in AWD form that starts at $41,140. The test vehicle had the $600 premium paint and $1121 (fitted) towing pack (towbar, towball and trailer wiring harness), making for $42,861 (plus on-road costs) as latest Toyota RAV4 Hybrid comes comes with a raft of standard equipment. All models come with a full suite of safety equipment and driver aids, such as active cruise control, pre-collision safety system with autonomous emergency braking, lane departure alert, road-sign assist (speed sign only), automatic high beam, seven airbags, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitor, rear-cross traffic alert and reversing camera. There’s also an eight-inch infotainment screen with embedded satellite-navigation, dual-zone climate control, keyless start and entry, Bluetooth, digital radio and voice recognition. The RAV4 GXL Hybrid also has 18-inch alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, wireless phone charging, five USB ports, leather steering wheel and gear shift, and auto-dimming rear-view features include reversing guidelines and hitch point marker on the camera screen and trailer-sway RAV4 on the insideThe Toyota RAV4 seats have a high hip point, so getting in and out is easy, and the seats themselves are supportive and comfortable. The RAV4 also has one of the biggest interiors in the class, with plenty of room inside for four adults to travel fight over who gets to charge their device in the RAV4 is pretty much sorted with five USB ports (three at the front, two in the rear and one 12v port (and one auxiliary port) up front. The cargo area is a large, squared-off space to store luggage and has four tie-down points and a cargo blind. If you’re running a portable fridge there’s also a 12v port on the right cargo wall. The only hiccup in terms of spec for touring is that the RAV4 Hybrid only comes with a space-saver spare, fitted under the cargo floor -- not ideal if you get a flat tyre out in the are no nasty surprises accessing control and instruments, with everything logically set out and easy to find. The infotainment system could be a bit easier to work through -- while the eight-inch screen is up high and easy to see, it’s a bit difficult to transition between some of the menus until you’ve spent some time with the are not generally the sharpest-handling vehicles to drive, but the RAV4 is a lot better than you might expect. The steering is not especially tactile and heavy cornering will see a fair bit of body roll, but the RAV4 points nicely and grips quite well on its OE Bridgestone Alenza rubber. Toyota seems to have got the ride really well sorted out when driving solo at least; it’s compliant while still being well controlled. Performance is also very good; if you’re not accustomed to driving a hybrid you might find the electric whirring and petrol engine kicking in here and there disconcerting at first, but with its maximum 163kW/221Nm (petrol engine and electric motor combined) the RAV4 Hybrid is responsive and quick when you want it to it’ll run on the electric motor up to 40km/h on a light throttle (if the battery has enough reserve) beyond that the petrol engine starts up. In normal driving you hardly notice the petrol engine humming away, but under heavy acceleration it’s noisy. Speaking of noise, while driving at 100km/h there’s more wind noise from around the side mirrors than you’d expect, but otherwise the RAV4 is quiet. On the hitchBacking up to the 1220kg Caravelair Antares 496 caravan we borrowed from Caravelair in Toongabbie NSW, the Toyota’s rear-view camera offered a nice, wide angle so you can see the hitching point easily (although the centre marker on the screen wasn’t quite on the money for lining up the towball with the hitch). The RAV4’s suspension rose 8mm at the front and dropped 25mm at the rear with the 77kg towball download. The RAV4’s side mirrors were a good shape for our clip-on towing on the freeway at 100km/h the RAV4 sits well, with no yawing and only slight fore-aft pitching. Delving down a particularly rough secondary road, however, saw the Toyota pitching fore-aft a bit more than you’d want. The pitching wasn’t the worst I’ve experienced under such conditions, but it’s obvious the suspension isn’t a perfect tune for towing. Performance with the van behind was very good -- while there was some torque-steer when accelerating from low speeds, once underway the RAV4 felt planted and responsive. It’s hillclimb performance was excellent, maintaining 90km/h up the climb with half throttle applied. Engine noise, however, was quite intrusive, as the CVT auto searched for the power braking down the test hill was equally impressive. While I had to allow for the Caravelair’s override brakes, the RAV4’s ability to reduce speed (using the CVT auto’s manual mode) was promising. Fuel economy surpriseThe great unknown with a hybrid like the RAV4 is how towing affects fuel consumption. Does lugging a trailer along make it a thirsty, eco-unfriendly vehicle? It seems not: the RAV4 achieved towing the caravan, and later while towing a Jayco J-Pod Outback weighing around 1000kg it achieved these figures aren't earth-shatteringly good, they're similar to towing figures we’ve obtained from competitors like the Nissan X-Trail and Volkswagen Tiguan - both of which were fitted with fuel-efficient turbo-diesels. With the fuel figure we obtained with the RAV4, you’re looking at an acceptable 416km touring range with a 50km safety margin out of the 55 litre figures without a van behind were a mixed bag: while the RAV4 sipped just on the freeway, it drank over much shorter urban runs. The final wordThe new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is a convincing light-duty tow vehicle, showing that a hybrid can be a viable alternative to diesel for towing. While it could do with a firmer ride when towing on rough roads (and a full-size spare for touring in the outback) with its good fuel economy, performance and towing stability the RAV4 Hybrid would have to be on your shortlist for light to medium towing duties.
